Did you know jellyfish get a whole celebratory day to themselves? Our JP teachers had fun reading the sweet messages and facts on packets of jelly sweets. A yummy treat to start the week on. 🪼
This week, all our learners were reminded to be good digital citizens when using their iPad. Below is a review of the important reminders that were covered:
Our Junior Preparatory learners continue to complete both formal and informal assessments throughout the quarter. These are done during the school day and under the care of their teachers.
Learners must meet the minimum requirements set by the Department of Education in order to progress to the next grade:
Home Language: English - Code 4 average throughout the year
Mathematics - Code 3 average throughout the year
First Additional Language: Afrikaans/isiXhosa - Code 3 average throughout the year
The Department of Education also requires learners to have attended school regularly and doctor’s notes given to school when absent for two days or more.
AR Adventures
In celebration of a recent arrival, Kids’ Spiders of Southern Africa, and the visit from the editor, Helene Booyens, whose fascinating tales left quite an impression earlier this year, we brought a bug experience into the library this week. The iBugAR app is linked to another super book, iExplore’s Bugs, which showcases the world’s largest insects and spiders. It is an absolute treat to introduce these to the children and watch the awe on their faces as the creatures come alive, and they are invited to take them for a walk or a quick flight around the room.
Birthday Books
Happy birthday to Alessandra, Busiswe and Alero who recently celebrated their birthdays. Alessandra donated the beautiful 50 Fairy Stories and Busiswe is bringing lots of smiles with the hilarious Monkey Business. Alero is contributing to the fun with Captain Underpants and the Big Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy. Thank you for these thoughtful gifts to the library.
Grade 3 Outing to Babylonstoren
The Grade 3s had a wonderful time exploring Babylonstoren, where they learned all about plants, their processes, and how they help us in everyday life. They loved walking through the beautiful gardens and were especially excited to meet the friendly donkeys!
