Last week, our Grade One parents were invited as Guest Speakers to share a little about their occupations. The children were absolutely fascinated to hear what each job involves, what a day at work looks like, and how different roles help people in our community. Parents showed the tools and equipment they use, explained why teamwork matters, and shared fun facts that sparked lots of excitement. Many even brought along photos, props, and items to touch and explore, which made the talks extra special. These visits truly inspired our learners and left them full of curiosity and big dreams for the future!

Cape Town Music Eisteddfod
Parklands College hosted the annual Cape Town Music Eisteddfod this year - what a musical delight 🎶✨! We are incredibly proud of our talented learners who took to the stage with courage and passion, sharing their love of music through voice and instrument.

Busy Week in Robotics
Our Junior learners have been having an incredible time in Robotics this week!
We officially launched our FLL Explore Season, and the excitement has been contagious. Learners received their joining certificates to mark the start of their journey. They’ve been busy with paper arts, brainstorming creative team names, making plans, and learning about the core values of gracious professionalism.
In the classroom side of Robotics, the learners have been diving into ScratchJr. They explored event coding blocks, started working with repeat coding blocks, and even created their own digital stories. Along with coding, they’ve been strengthening their building skills, putting together all sorts of creative models – including a spray painting factory!
It has been a week full of teamwork, imagination, and problem-solving, and we are so proud of all the amazing things our learners are achieving in Robotics.
It is the Roald Dahl season. We are having a wonderful time, meeting this iconic author and his imaginative stories and characters. The Book Club spoke about Danny, the Champion of the World, and followed the story by playing a board game.
The Grade 1 classes met The Enormous Crocodile and listened to the story being read to them on their iPads.
The Grade 2s were astounded by Mr Twit, who has never washed his face in his life! They had fun with a Roald Dahl app, which introduced the Twits and the pranks they play on each other.
The Grade 3 classes played a creative game that enriches language skills while introducing some of the most well-known Dahl characters. And this is just the start of a marvellous Dahl feast as we count down to his birthday on 13th September.
Book Donation
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Ward family for a most generous donation of children’s books. We have selected books for the Junior Prep, Senior Prep as well as the High School libraries, and also packed a box for a charity that we support which supplies library books to less fortunate schools. You have brought joy to many young readers. Thank you.
Aspiring Author
Conan in Grade 1 has blown us away with his first book, beautifully written and illustrated by himself. It is a wonderful story of a ginger cat who visits the library looking for books on cats, but the librarian takes him to all the different sections in the library. It is a gem! We are so proud of you, Conan. May there be many more books from you in the years to come.
Digital Citizenship
This quarter we are excited to launch our Be the Change Outreach Q3, focused on giving back to our community in a meaningful way. Our goal is to create 100 care packages for the residents of Ria Abel Retirement Home.
Each grade has been assigned specific items to collect, from wet wipes and tissues to soap, toothpaste and more, as shown in the image below. We also hope to add mini chocolates to each care package as a small, thoughtful treat. Any donations towards these sweet treats are warmly welcomed.
The final date for collections is 12 September 2025.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity and support. Together we can brighten someone’s day and remind our elderly community members that they are seen, valued and cared for.
Foundation Phase (Grade 1 – 3) learners continue to complete both formal and informal assessments throughout the quarter on a regular basis to improve the knowledge, understanding or skills of the learners. They receive the standard report, which reflects codes and a comment from the class teacher.
Parent-Teacher Meetings
If you would like to meet with your child’s class teacher, please arrange a meeting via the Google Calendar link shared by the class teachers.
Appointments are usually 15 mins in length. We greatly value our parents’ and teachers’ time and urge parents to be on time in order to ensure that other parents are not kept waiting. Please contact your child’s class teacher directly should you be unavailable to meet on the specific days and times scheduled.
QUARTER 4 Co-Curricular sign-ups
If you have missed the sign up for Quarter 4 co-curriculars, please email Coach Jared jmargetts@parklands.co.za for any Sport queries and Mrs Buckle rbuckle@parklands.co.za for any Culture queries.

BOK FRIDAY
Let's get behind the Boks as they head down under to play our fierce rivals New Zealand at Eden Park by wearing our Green and Gold to school!
For their safety, learners are required to wear a gum guard and shin pads for hockey, and a gum guard for rugby. They may NOT PARTICIPATE in practices or games without this.
If your little one has excelled in a sport outside of school, we would love to celebrate their achievements. Please use the link below to fill in the external achievements form to make us aware of their shining moment.

This week's feature business is...
Cake sales
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.
