We will be celebrating the school's 45th birthday on Tuesday, 11 March and on this day in 1980, Lorraine Roth opened the doors of Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School to the residents of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. The quality of education provided brought about a well – patronised and respected establishment, which offered care and early learning to young children, aged from six months to six years.
The reputation and quality of the school continued to grow and numerous requests by parents, for the Pre-Primary to offer formal education, were received. Encouraged by the staunch support of parents we were prompted to search for land to grow the school’s academic offering. As a result of a thorough research process, the Western Seaboard was identified as a potential major growth area. This was further supported by growth and population statistics from the City of Cape Town’s Planning Department. The construction of Parklands College commenced in 1998 in the new suburb of Parklands and in July of the same year, we proudly opened the doors of the new Campus in Raats Drive to 32 learners.
The College was built in phases, in order to accommodate the growth in learner numbers. The window period provided during the construction phases enabled the College to acquire additional land for sports and future developments. Parklands College currently operates from three sites, on approximately twenty-six and a half hectares of land. The growth of the College and Pre-Primary required careful strategic planning, and a decision to develop a new campus for the existing Secondary Faculty was formalised by the Board in February 2010. Parklands College, at 1 College Avenue, opened its doors in January 2012.
The College continues to grow as a result of the outstanding education and foundation our learners receive in our Pre-Primary and we are proud of what has been made available, in order to enrich their academic, cultural and sporting interests. We look forward to providing many more years of outstanding innovative education, beginning in the early years. The success could not have been achieved without the outstanding support we have received from our parents.

NOTICE
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate have advised that they will be commencing construction of a median island and relocation of the speed hump in Wood Drive between Raats Drive and Dorchester Drive. They will be constructing an island opposite the Senior Preparatory exit gate and moving the speed hump closer to the circle.
Reports & Report Feedback Meeting
Assessments in Grade 1 – 3 take place daily, in order for teachers to identify and support each learner’s individual needs.
Reports will be released on Tuesday 25 March and report feedback meetings will take place on Tuesday 25 March, Wednesday 26 March and Thursday 27 March. Your child’s class teacher will share the link to their Google Calendar in order for you to book a meeting to discuss your child’s academic progress.
Appointments are usually 15 mins in length. We greatly value our parents’ and teachers’ time and urge parents to be on time in order to ensure that other parents are not kept waiting. LIBRARY NEWS
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
This week we celebrated the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, and classes were introduced to his fun books and characters in different ways. The Book Club competed in a quiz to see which group could identify the most Dr. Seuss characters. Library lessons were devoted to Dr. Seuss’s favourite stories in upbeat musical and rap versions. With all the beat and rhyming going on, this is still a marvellous way to practise your reading skills.
Birthday Books
Happy birthday to Hluma and Evert who celebrated their birthdays last weekend. We are loving these gorgeous books! There is lots to giggle about in Cheeky Charlie! and the illustrations are hilarious. Local author Delia Swart shares sound advice regarding dealing with sadness in Short Whiskers Long Tail. Thank you for these great Birthday Books.
Chocolate Cake to Die For!
Recipe books are very popular in our library and our aspiring junior chefs love to take home a book to experiment with some recipes. This week Noa-Lee not only returned the book with a photo of her chocolate cake, but even brought a piece of cake to try. We can vouch that she has a winning recipe! Thank you, Noa-Lee!
Extreme Reading Entries

Watch this fabulous compilation of Extreme Reading entries. Well done to everyone who participated!
Storytime with Madam Daleena
We are delighted to welcome back Daniella Djan, former Drama teacher at Parklands College, who will be visiting Parklands College as her storytelling character, Madam Deleena. On Monday, 24 March, she will bring an exciting, interactive storytelling experience to our Grade 1 learners, using her expertise as an educator and performer to captivate and inspire a love for reading. The cost of R50 per learner will be debited to your account.
Outreach Donations
Let’s spread joy by donating Easter eggs to underprivileged schools and orphanages! Your small act of kindness can bring a big smile to a child’s face.
Every quarter our school collects items for our local community in need. For the first quarter, we will be collecting food for animals in need at Fallen Angels.
Lost Uniform Items
In assembly last week, Mrs Lamb discussed the importance of taking responsibility for school uniforms as we currently have an overflow of items without a name or unclearly marked. Learners were asked to be mindful and keep track of their uniforms during the school day. Please make sure to check that every item of uniform, lunchboxes and water bottles are clearly labelled with a full name. This makes returning items to their owners a much easier task.

Final Match Week & Exciting Firsts!
Just like that, we’ve reached our final match week of the season! Our cricketers will take on West Riding, and in an exciting turn, Coach Liam is looking to reward our learners with an additional fixture against Curro Burgundy the following week - what a way to finish off the term!
It has been rewarding to witness the growth of our softballers. From learning the game to playing four league fixtures this season, our girls have embraced the challenge and developed a real passion for the sport. Meanwhile, our cricketers have enjoyed regular matches and tournaments from Grade 2 to Grade 3, and it has been fantastic to see girls playing cricket alongside the boys - a testament to the inclusivity and strength of our programme.
As we shift focus to Autumn sports, a huge shoutout to the incredible support from parents and families this past Thursday - your encouragement and presence mean the world to our young athletes!
And today marks another first for Parklands College Prep - some of our U8 and U9 swimmers will be competing in their first gala of 2025. We can’t wait to see them in action and hear the cheers from the sidelines!
Here’s to another action-packed week of sport!

Week that was: A Thrilling Thursday at Junior Prep!
Thursday was packed with action as our Junior Prep teams took to the field with enthusiasm and determination.
Our U9 Softball team played a nail-biting match against Cannons Creek, just falling short 9-10. A special mention to Layyah, who was named Player of the Match - an incredible achievement in what was the first-ever softball match for this team!
"Was a great game! Super proud of the girls!" – Coach Courtney.
Cricket saw three teams take on Jan van Riebeek, delivering some memorable performances. Our U8s extended their unbeaten streak, securing a 4-run victory, with our Player of the Match, Marais, leading the way. The U9 Blue team put up a strong fight but narrowly lost by 7 runs, with Adam earning Player of the Match. Our U9 White team may not have secured the win, but for many, it was their first-ever match - a huge milestone in their cricket journey! The Player of the Match was Xander.
With each game, our young athletes continue to grow, compete, and embrace the spirit of sport - exciting times ahead!

Table View Mini Cricket Festival – A Day to Remember!
Our U8 and U9 cricketers took to the field last Saturday, 1 March, at the Table View Primary Mini Cricket Festival, facing some tough competition in the A stream section - and what a spectacle it was!
The U8s battled it out against Van Riebeekstrand, Sunningdale, and Table View, while the U9s took on Table View, Elkanah, and Van Riebeekstrand. The day was filled with brilliant catches, awesome strokes, and some breathtaking moments in the field. The energy, the determination, and the pure love for the game were on full display!
But the standout moment? Without a doubt, seeing our learners celebrating with their parents after their thrilling victory over Table View! The cheers, high-fives, and beaming smiles truly captured the spirit of the day.
A huge well done to our young cricketers - you played with passion, sportsmanship, and pride. Parklands College Prep cricket is on the rise, and we can't wait for the next one!
