LIBRARY NEWS

READATHON WEEK

This time of the year we always pay tribute to one of the greatest children’s authors of all times, and celebrate Roald Dahl Day during the week of Roald Dahl’s birthday on 13 September. His iconic characters live on in many languages and cultures all over the world, and the more than 500 words that he has created have enriched the English language immeasurable.

Publishers are keeping this legacy alive with new publications every year, and this year there is a beautiful set of the books in their original covers, in case you are collecting for your home library. You can also look out for a new book titled The Twits Next Door, in which the revolting Mr and Mrs Twit get new neighbours, the Lovelies. Will they get on with each other and be good neighbours? Not a chance! The Twits hate the Lovelies and will do anything to get rid of their horribly nice neighbours. But what will happen when the lovely new neighbours start to fight back? Loads of fun guaranteed!

BIRTHDAY BOOKS

Ntokoza, Sadey, Milani, Jakeem and Oluwatobi contributed to our libraries this week with a marvellous selection of Birthday Books. Thank you to Sadey for the beautiful version of Cinderella, and to Ntokozo for some good advice from Little Bear who learns how to be happy. Milani is adding the ever-popular No Brainer to our Wimpy Kid collection, and Jakeem thoughtfully brought something for all ages with The Jellyfish Jiggle for the younger children, as well as an inspiring space adventure of Astrid who is determined to be an astronaut although she is wearing a hearing aid. Thank you also to Oluwatobi for a breathtaking fantasy adventure titled Cameron Battle and the Hidden Kingdom.

BOOK CLUB CREATIVITY

This week the Book Club celebrated the arrival of the latest instalment of the Worst Week Ever series and started creating their own version of the Friday cover in SketchesPro.  This one is still in process, but how wonderful is this artwork?
