The Grade 2s had a fantastic visit to Intaka Island last week Friday, where they loved exploring and discovering new things about our wetlands.
A few of our learners shared their favourite moments from the outing:
"I liked spotting birds." - Arush
"I liked hiking because we got to see the bees." - Emily
"My favourite part was the boat ride because we got to see the Egyptian geese." - Ruona
"I enjoyed the classroom and learnt about water purification." - Omari
"My favourite thing was the water purification and that it means a lot to have clean water." - Liyana
"I liked the boat ride as I have never been on one before." - Nina
"The boat ride was my favourite because we got to see the birds." - Nikani
"I like the boat ride because I got to blow the whistle. I also liked that we got to see the birds and tick them off our page as we saw them." - Koketso
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our wonderful Prep parents for your incredible generosity and support. Because of your kind donations, countless pairs of shoes will soon find their way to those in need, bringing comfort, dignity, and hope to individuals who go without.
This outreach effort is more than just giving shoes; it’s about walking in kindness, one step at a time. Your compassion is making a real difference, and we are so grateful to be part of a community that leads with love and empathy. These donations will be given to Khulisa Abantwana - a non-profit organisation who will distribute the shoes to children in Dunoon.
Thank you for helping us make the world a little brighter.
The Grade 3s have been learning about 3D relief art and put their origami folding skills into practice to create these beautiful radial relief designs.
Our Afrikaans FAL learners have been doing “Die Drie Varkies“ and they worked together to make a class puzzle of the story.
This past weekend, our talented Parklands College robotics teams competed in the World Robotics Olympiad Western Cape North event, tackling exciting and challenging missions that tested their robot design, programming, and problem-solving skills.
We are incredibly proud to share their outstanding results:
RoboMission Elementary:
🥇Gold – Barrier Breakers
🥈Silver – HyperTech 2.0
RoboMission Junior:
🥇Gold – TechnoBlade
🥈Silver – HTDR
🥉Bronze – v0rT3x
RoboMission Senior:
🥇Gold – TechTron
🥈Silver – Li² (Edgemead High School)
Future Innovators Elementary:
🥇Gold – GALACTIC GIRLS
Our teams showed remarkable creativity, teamwork, and resilience as they navigated surprise challenges and complex tasks throughout the competition.
Congratulations to all our learners for their dedication and hard work. We now look forward to supporting them at the National Championships in Pretoria on 13 September.
Well done, Parklands College! 👏🤖

On Wednesday, 13 August, we were exactly one month away from Roald Dahl’s birthday. The Book Club gathered to craft the traditional bunting, with each member showcasing a different character. These are quite handy for introducing the characters and stories to the younger learners, apart from looking really lovely in the library.
Space in Augmented Reality
This week, the Grade 3s took one more step in their Space PBL journey as we ventured into deep space by using the iSpaceAR app, from the iExplore book series. They were totally engrossed, drove buggies around the library, landed a space probe on an asteroid, trying not to crash it, and took a closer look at the Hubble telescope and the Milky Way, among other adventures. Next week the AR journey will continue with some space history - keep watching this space!

This quarter we are excited to launch our Be the Change Outreach Q3, focused on giving back to our community in a meaningful way. Our goal is to create 100 care packages for the residents of Ria Abel Retirement Home.
Each grade has been assigned specific items to collect, from wet wipes and tissues to soap, toothpaste and more, as shown in the image below. We also hope to add mini chocolates to each care package as a small, thoughtful treat. Any donations towards these sweet treats are warmly welcomed.
The final date for collections is 12 September 2025.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity and support. Together we can brighten someone’s day and remind our elderly community members that they are seen, valued and cared for.
College blazers
Please be reminded that all learners need to wear the new striped blazer from the start of 2026, with the obvious exception of those who wear Honours Blazers. To ensure timely delivery, we advise you to place your order with our uniform supplier, School and Leisure, early.
Second hand school uniforms
Please contact Tania Fourie if you would like to buy or sell good quality second-hand uniforms. She is also the supplier of Froggy School shoes. Contact details: +27 83 631 7683 or tania@sportstudio.co.za

FROM THE SPORTS DESK
Derby Day is behind us - but what an incredible day it was! Even though our Junior Prep wasn’t part of the official fixtures this year, we still felt the excitement and showed our Parklands spirit in full Blue and White. Thank you to all our parents, guardians, and learners who joined the Fun Run and came to cheer on our Senior Prep teams. You were part of creating that amazing atmosphere!
Our Derby Day experience has reminded us of what makes sport at Parklands so special: teamwork, enthusiasm, and the joy of being active together.
But there’s no slowing down - our Junior Prep learners have another jam-packed week of sport ahead:
🏐 Netball: Our U7–U9 netballers take to the courts again, continuing to gain confidence and skill in every match.
🏉 Rugby: Our Grade 3 rugby boys are developing quickly — the energy, running rugby, and smiles say it all!
🏑 Hockey: Our budding hockey stars will enjoy more fixtures as they learn the game, building great friendships and memories along the way.
Next big moment on our calendar: the North vs South Derby at Golden Grove on Saturday, 20 September.
This will be another highlight of the year, and we’re counting on the Junior Prep to once again come out in their Blue and White, cheering on Parklands College with all the passion we saw this past weekend!
Sport at Parklands is alive and thriving — and the best is yet to come!
Friday Night Lights: Mini Hockey
29 August: We have our very own Friday Night Lights Mini Hockey evening at our Secondary Faculty starting at 18h00.
We will have Coffee and Snacks available to purchase. Please join the fun!
Our Junior Prep learners had another exciting week on the sports fields, showing off their energy, teamwork, and determination.
U9 won 5–4 – POTM: Enzo on his debut!
A thrilling match that kept supporters on the edge of their seats! The boys showed fantastic grit and discipline, with some brilliant running rugby and solid defense on display. A big well done to Enzo for earning Player of the Match, and to the entire team for their commitment.
With Derby Day behind us, our Junior Prep teams continue to build momentum. We look forward to more fixtures and opportunities for our young stars to shine on the field.
Our talented U9 Rugby boys went head-to-head with Milnerton on Wednesday, 20 August and came out on top with a nail-biting 5–4 win. What an incredible effort from our young Rugby Stars – well done, boys! - Mrs. A Martch.
Busi participated in ACRO Dance sport last term and came 1st at both District & Province. She then went to GP for the nationals and came 6th in her age category during the past holidays.
For their safety, learners are required to wear a gum guard and shin pads for hockey, and a gum guard for rugby. They may NOT PARTICIPATE in practices or games without this.

This week's feature business is...
Cake sales
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.
Friday 19 September: Grade 1P & 1A Cake Sale

May all our Parklands Families have a lovely weekend ahead.
