🪐✨ Grade 3s Solar-rific Start! ✨🪐
The Grade 3s kicked off their Solar System PBL this week! Learners worked wonderfully in their teams, showing creativity and collaboration. Their models are already looking truly solar-rific – we can’t wait to see the final masterpieces shine! 🌍🌟🚀
Grade 3P enjoyed the sunshine while working on their space projects.
Declan was super excited to do his oral (before the due date) and now we know why! What a treat! His iMovie was exceptionally creative (as was his experiment) and captured the audience's attention from the get-go. Well done Declan!
Grade 1P have been learning about different types of work and explored this topic creating occupation crowns.
The Design Society learners are busy painting parrot artworks on canvas with their brush pen sets. Watch this space to see their completed masterpieces!
Our Grade 3 Robotics group kicked off the FLL Explore programme this week, and the excitement was electric! The learners were introduced to the theme “Unearthed”, received their engineering books, and got to explore what their projects will involve.
They also learned about their team structures and the core values of FIRST, which helps them build skills like teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
We can’t wait to see what our young engineers create as they embark on this exciting journey. Stay tuned for updates on their discoveries and inventions!
During World War II, countries developed technology to destroy cities. After the war, however, brilliant scientists turned their eyes to space and led the competition between the Soviet Union and America during the Space Race that followed.
This week, the Grade 3 classes enjoyed another augmented reality adventure. Using the Space Race AR app together with the Space Race book, they could watch some videos of memorable space moments, or take a closer look at 3D models of objects like the lunar lander and the International Space Station.
These videos include real-life footage from NASA of events like the moon landing and a space shuttle landing.
Birthday Book
Still in the space theme, Tanishq celebrated his birthday on Monday and spoiled everyone with this magnificent space encyclopedia for our library. It contains information about the universe, our solar system, stars and galaxies, astronomy, and space exploration.
Thank you so much, Tanishq! Happy birthday!
This quarter we are excited to launch our Be the Change Outreach Q3, focused on giving back to our community in a meaningful way. Our goal is to create 100 care packages for the residents of Ria Abel Retirement Home.
Each grade has been assigned specific items to collect, from wet wipes and tissues to soap, toothpaste and more, as shown in the image below. We also hope to add mini chocolates to each care package as a small, thoughtful treat. Any donations towards these sweet treats are warmly welcomed.
The final date for collections is 12 September 2025.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity and support. Together we can brighten someone’s day and remind our elderly community members that they are seen, valued and cared for.
College blazers
Please be reminded that all learners need to wear the new striped blazer from the start of 2026, with the obvious exception of those who wear Honours Blazers. To ensure timely delivery, we advise you to place your order with our uniform supplier, School and Leisure, early.
Second hand school uniforms
Please contact Tania Fourie if you would like to buy or sell good quality second-hand uniforms. She is also the supplier of Froggy School shoes. Contact details: +27 83 631 7683 or tania@sportstudio.co.za

FROM THE SPORTS DESK
Our Junior Prep learners have another jam-packed week of sport ahead:
🏐 Netball: Our U7–U9 netballers take to the courts again, continuing to gain confidence and skill in every match.
🏉 Rugby: Our Grade 3 rugby boys are developing quickly — the energy, running rugby, and smiles say it all!
🏑 Hockey: Our budding hockey stars will enjoy more fixtures as they learn the game, building great friendships and memories along the way.
Next big moment on our calendar: the North vs South Derby at Golden Grove on Saturday, 20 September.
This will be another highlight of the year, and we’re counting on the Junior Prep to once again come out in their Blue and White, cheering on Parklands College with all the passion we saw this past weekend!
Sport at Parklands is alive and thriving — and the best is yet to come!
Friday Night Lights: Mini Hockey
29 August: We have our very own Friday Night Lights Mini Hockey evening at our Secondary Faculty starting at 18h00.
We will have Coffee and Snacks available to purchase. Please join the fun!
Our Junior Prep learners had another exciting week on the sports fields, showing off their energy, teamwork, and determination.
U9 won 5–4 – POTM: Enzo on his debut!
A thrilling match that kept supporters on the edge of their seats! The boys showed fantastic grit and discipline, with some brilliant running rugby and solid defense on display. A big well done to Enzo for earning Player of the Match, and to the entire team for their commitment.
With Derby Day behind us, our Junior Prep teams continue to build momentum. We look forward to more fixtures and opportunities for our young stars to shine on the field.
Our talented U9 Rugby boys went head-to-head with Milnerton on Wednesday, 20 August and came out on top with a nail-biting 5–4 win. What an incredible effort from our young Rugby Stars – well done, boys!

BOK FRIDAY
Let's get behind the Boks as they head down under to play our fierce rivals New Zealand at Eden Park by wearing our Green and Gold to school!
For their safety, learners are required to wear a gum guard and shin pads for hockey, and a gum guard for rugby. They may NOT PARTICIPATE in practices or games without this.
If your little one has excelled in a sport outside of school, we would love to celebrate their achievements. Please use the link below to fill in the external achievements form to make us aware of their shining moment.

This week's feature business is...
Cake sales
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.
