DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. features original music and lyrics by George Noriega and Joel Someillan, and book by Kevin Del Aguila.
As the show opens, we learn that Marty the zebra may be celebrating his tenth birthday at the Central Park Zoo with his friends Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, yet he longs to experience life outside of the zoo’s walls. When Marty eventually escapes, his animal friends from the zoo pursue him into New York City. After reuniting, the animals are chased by the police, and ultimately felled by tranquilliser darts. They awake, trapped in crates on a ship, which, through a series of events, is thrown off course. Upon reaching land, the animals discover they have been shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. Ultimately, it is only in being so lost that they can begin to discover where they really belong.
Every Grade 4 - 6 learner as well as every Grade R - 3 dancer is getting ready to Move it! We hope to see you join in the fun too! Ticket Sales are now open!
Book here via Quicket.
Coaching Highlights for Our Eisteddfod Dancers
We were delighted to offer our Grade 1 to 3 dancers specialised coaching in expression and performance for their Eisteddfod Character solos with none other than our very own Mrs Buckle. Her extensive experience and renowned expertise provided a wonderful opportunity for these young dancers to begin refining their artistry.
Yara Arries with Professor Elizabeth Triegaardt
Our Own Choice dancers were just as fortunate to receive coaching from the distinguished Professor Elizabeth Triegaardt — a celebrated figure in the South African ballet world.
A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Dance, Professor Triegaardt is closely associated with the Cape Junior Ballet Company and is a former principal dancer of CAPAB Ballet. She also served as CEO of Cape Town City Ballet and was the long-standing head of the UCT Dance Department. Having such an inspiring mentor guide our dancers is a great privilege and a special milestone in their dance journey.
Celebrating Families
International Day of Families was celebrated on 15 May. In honour of this special day we revisited a heartwarming collection of digital family portraits created by our learners in Art when they were in Grade 1 (now in Grade 2 & 3). We can see they used creativity and heart to capture their families in picture.
The Grade 1s are learning about Data Handling and created a class graph. Each child was given five school activities to choose from and selected their favourite. The results were used to create a graph showing the most popular activity.
The Grade 1s have been sculpting clay bowls in Art this quarter. This week, they started painting their creations and adding beautiful patterned details. It has been quite a thrill to use their brand-new paint sets and experiment with different colour-mixing techniques! Watch this space for the finished results soon.
While enjoying the sunshine, Mrs Naidoo's class read sight word on their iPads in our lovely outdoor spaces.
Foundation Phase (Grade 1 – 3) learners continue to complete both formal and informal assessments throughout the quarter on a regular basis to improve the knowledge, understanding or skills of the learners. They receive the standard report, which reflects codes and a comment from the class teacher. At the end of quarter Two and Three, parents have the opportunity to meet with the class teacher to discuss their child's academic progress.
Elmer Day is a celebration of the iconic elephant known for his patchwork coat, sense of humour and kindness to all. The first Elmer book was published in 1989 and since then David McKee’s 30 Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages and enjoyed by young children around the world.
We are looking forward to immersing ourselves in these timeless stories, and enjoying some creative activities.
The Book Club played a fun game of Book Dominoes. The trick, of course, was finding creative connections between books in order to place your book. These ranged from authors, series and content to the characters on the cover. Lots of laughter and collaboration!
We are extremely grateful to each family who has diligently sent through boxes, bottle tops, paper bags, tins, leather pieces and other bits and pieces to help with the creation of our props and costumes.
Every bag that we open is a treasure trove.
We appreciate your help and support.
FROM THE SPORTS DESK
What a jam-packed week it’s been for our Junior Prep sports stars! With Hockey, Rugby, and Netball all in full swing, the energy on the fields and courts has been electric.
Since returning from the mid-term break, our learners have shown incredible commitment, passion, and perseverance in every session. Their effort and team spirit are truly inspiring!
We’re especially excited as we head into our first sports festival of the quarter this Saturday at Camps Bay. ⏰ It’s an early start, so please take note:
📍 Venue: Symmonds Field (not the Primary School) – we don’t want anyone ending up at the wrong location!
Looking ahead, our hockey teams will take a short break next week, but Netball and Rugby will continue as planned, building up to more exciting matches and moments.
As the colder and wetter days settle in, we kindly ask that learners bring along tracksuits or a spare change of clothes, especially for those chilly Friday morning sessions and of course, if you’re coming down to support – a shared Coffee is always welcome!
☁️ Friday Mornings: Sessions will continue as planned, and we’ll assess the weather and make a call on the day if needed.
Thank you, parents, for your ongoing support and enthusiasm – it makes all the difference.
Here’s to another action-packed quarter at Parklands Prep!
💙💛 #FullHouseOfSport #JuniorPrepPower #RainOrShine #ParkiePride
For their safety, learners are required to wear a gum guard and shin pads for hockey, and a gum guard for rugby. They may NOT PARTICIPATE in practices or games without this.

With more fixtures lined up next week, we keep the momentum going, so lace up those shoes, and let’s keep the energy high!
A huge thank you to all our parents and guardians for the incredible support on the sidelines – we see you, we hear you, and we are so grateful for your cheers and encouragement!

This week's feature business is...
Cake sales
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.
