DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. features original music and lyrics by George Noriega and Joel Someillan, and book by Kevin Del Aguila.
As the show opens, we learn that Marty the zebra may be celebrating his tenth birthday at the Central Park Zoo with his friends Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, yet he longs to experience life outside of the zoo’s walls. When Marty eventually escapes, his animal friends from the zoo pursue him into New York City. After reuniting, the animals are chased by the police, and ultimately felled by tranquilliser darts. They awake, trapped in crates on a ship, which, through a series of events, is thrown off course. Upon reaching land, the animals discover they have been shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. Ultimately, it is only in being so lost that they can begin to discover where they really belong.
Every Grade 4 - 6 learner as well as every Grade R - 3 dancer is getting ready to Move it! We hope to see you join in the fun too! Ticket Sales are now open!
Book here via Quicket.
This past week was Child Protection Week and ends with Children’s Day on Sunday the 1st of June. Children's Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honour of children and their rights. In 1925, International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare. Since 1950, it is celebrated on 1 June annually. This is a very important and special day, as we take time to acknowledge the importance of our children and their rights.
We ask all parents to please be courteous to one another, as well as our security staff in the JP Car Park. You may not park or wait in the yellow drop and go zone. If there are no parking bays available, please park along Wood Drive or exit the parking and loop back to try again. The yellow drop and go zone is only for dropping and going. Remember, that stopping at the gate causes great congestion.
Assembly: Winter Uniform
In assembly, Mrs Lamb reminded the learners of the correct Winter uniform. These boys and girls were shining examples of how to wear their uniforms smartly.

Grade 3 Outing to Alpaca Loom
On Thursday, 29 May, the Grade 3 learners enjoyed a fun and educational outing to The Alpaca Loom in Paarl.
The day began at the petting zoo, where the children delighted in meeting and gently petting friendly alpacas and llamas. They then watched an interesting video that explained the differences between these two unique animals. A special part of the day was seeing how a shawl is woven on a loom – a fascinating process that showed the hard work behind each handmade piece.
The biggest highlight, however, was visiting the adorable newly born baby alpacas. Their cuteness captured everyone’s hearts and made the day extra memorable!
Grade 3 Afrikaans Culinary Experience
As part of FAL (First Additional Language) and SAL (Second Additional Language) this quarter the Grade 3s visited the Secondary Campus for a tour of their Culinary Department. They learned all about the baking of cupcakes and the ingredients used to create these culinary delights, all while broadening their Afrikaans vocabulary. Learners also had the opportunity to ice their own cupcakes and enjoy eating them in the recreation room. Thank you to Mrs Torbet and Mrs Grobler for making this such a memorable experience for our Grade 3s!
Grade 2P & A Cake Sale & Slipper Day
Comfy feet and sweet treats were most welcome on this chilly Friday! A heartfelt thank you to all the Grade 2P and 2A parents for your generous contributions to today’s cake sale. The delicious treats were thoroughly enjoyed by all!
Beyond the tasty delights and fun, the cake sale also plays an important role in supporting our outreach initiatives. We’re pleased to share that R2520 was raised this morning.
Later in the year, we’ll let parents know which charity has been chosen by our outreach committee to receive the proceeds from our cake sales.
Parklands College Shines at Ballet Eisteddfod
Our dancers had a truly memorable time at this year’s Ballet Eisteddfod, showcasing their hard work, passion, and beautiful artistry on stage. We’re proud to share a short video with some highlights from the event, capturing the joy and dedication of our learners.
Parklands College continues to lead the way in embracing diversity and inclusion in ballet. As part of this commitment, all our dancers performed in flesh-toned tights that matched their individual skin tones — a powerful step forward in making every dancer feel seen, celebrated, and proud of who they are.
This quarter we are also collecting instant oats, Cup-a-Soup, tinned food and instant noodles. Please add these to your shopping list for next time you go shopping so we can continue to support those less fortunate than us. Items can be sent to your child's class.
Foundation Phase (Grade 1 – 3) learners continue to complete both formal and informal assessments throughout the quarter on a regular basis to improve the knowledge, understanding or skills of the learners. They receive the standard report, which reflects codes and a comment from the class teacher. At the end of quarter Two and Three, parents have the opportunity to meet with the class teacher to discuss their child's academic progress.
Parent-Teacher Meetings (Friday 20 June-Tuesday 24 June)
If you would like to meet with your child’s class teacher, please arrange a meeting via the Google Calendar link shared by the class teachers.
World Environment Day is an annual initiative of the United Nations to mobilise communities worldwide to take action and protect our precious environment. This year the focus is on plastic pollution as it affects all life on the planet.
Did you know that:
an estimated 11 million tonnes of plastic waste leak into aquatic ecosystems each year.
Microplastics in the seas now outnumber stars in our galaxy.
These tiny plastic particles find their way into food, water and air. It is estimated that each person on the planet consumes more than 50,000 microplastics per year – and also inhales a significant amount.
Plastic pollution affects more than 800 marine and coastal species through ingestion, entanglement, and other dangers.
To bring the conservation message home, we have invited a local author and environmentalist, who will be addressing our Grade 3 - 6 classes on Thursday. Heléne Booyens holds honours degrees in Conservation Ecology and Journalism from the University of Stellenbosch. Currently she is a senior editor at Penguin Random House South Africa, and a former agricultural and environmental journalist. We have the pleasure of introducing her latest book, titled Mammal Safari, which provides information on 70 African mammal species in a unique and interactive way. This activity book is jam-packed with puzzles, games, riddles, mazes, word games and many more, guaranteed to provide hours of entertainment and great facts on our wildlife.
To pre-order the books, please see the insert below, or phone Nicole at 064 530 6693. Books will also be on sale after the talk.
Shamiso and Hugo presented their Birthday Books at our assembly, and we want to thank them for these lovely books.
Shamiso donated a beginner reader, Thomas and the Dragon, perfect for practising those early reading skills.
Hugo brought In the Jungle-y, Jungle-y! Monkey is looking for food and encounters a lot of animals on his way. This story is filled with delicious words that are fantastic to say.
Barakaeli also celebrated his birthday this week, and his beautiful Tiny Whale is just in time for World Oceans Day! Thank you, Barakaeli.
We are extremely grateful to each family who has diligently sent through boxes, bottle tops, paper bags, tins, leather pieces and other bits and pieces to help with the creation of our props and costumes.
Every bag that we open is a treasure trove. We appreciate your help and support.
FROM THE SPORTS DESK
A huge thank you to all the parents and guardians who braved the chilly, wet weather on Wednesday to support our U8 Netballers in their very first match against Edgemead Primary! What a fantastic moment it was - these young athletes took to the court with courage, excitement, and smiles that stretched until Friday. It was a proud and memorable milestone, and we’re sure the buzz is still in the air!
Now it’s the U8 Hockey players' turn to shine!
Next week, we host our internal hockey fixtures:
Monday: U8 Girls
Wednesday: U8 Boys
Both fixtures take place during regular sports time (13h00–14h00), so come pop by and cheer them on!
Keep your eyes peeled for the results of the U8 and U9 Boys’ and Girls’ Mini Hockey Festival, currently happening at Curro Durbanville. We’re so proud to see our young players taking part in such exciting opportunities!
As we approach the end of Quarter 2 and many schools begin their assessment periods, we’re thrilled that our sports programme continues to thrive - with a few more fixtures still lined up. Your support, encouragement, and energy on the sidelines mean everything to our athletes.
Let’s keep the spirit high and wrap up the term with pride and passion.
📣 Don’t forget!
All U9 Netball girls are welcome to join Coach Nadine tomorrow, Open Day, from 10:00 - 11:00 on the JP Netball Courts. Please wear PE kits and bring a bottle of water. We hope to see as many of you there for a fun practice session.

For their safety, learners are required to wear a gum guard and shin pads for hockey, and a gum guard for rugby. They may NOT PARTICIPATE in practices or games without this.
A First for Our U8 Netballers!
What a special moment in our sporting calendar - our U8 Netball teams took to the courts for their first-ever official match against Edgemead Primary!
Both our Blue and White teams delivered outstanding performances:
Blue Team secured a confident 3–0 win
White Team followed suit with a solid 2–0 win
Players of the Match? All of them! Every single girl brought their energy, teamwork, and excitement - making it impossible to choose just one. Congratulations to each player for making your debut a memorable one!
U9B(2): won 4-0 Anne
U9B(1): lost 1-0 Kuhle
The growth over the past two months was on full display. From tight defensive play and quick transitions through the middle third to confident shooting - it was a joy to watch!

Cake sales
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.
