Dear Parents,

We have enjoyed the four day week and it has been lovely to have the sun come out at break to warm us up after the morning chill.

There are some lovely school events coming up; please see the invitations and details below and save the dates!

The safety and well-being of our learners are a priority. Please ensure that when crossing the road with your children, you wait for the green light and ensure that all cars have come to a complete halt before crossing the road.

Grade 1 Occupations Dress-up Day

What a wonderful day last Friday was for the Grade 1s as they stepped into the shoes of their dream occupations. Our little ones proudly dressed up and shared what they would like to be when they grow up.

Lost Property!

Oh dear! Our Lost Property piles continue to grow. Please can we ask you all to ensure names are CLEARLY written and that each and every family checks their items at home. We have a few learners who are missing clearly marked items.

Great habits start at home! A big thank you to the parents who consistently remind and encourage their children—your support at home helps them develop the habits and life skills they need to look after their belongings at school!

This is a snapshot of what was left after Monday last week. This is one day's worth of items that are left behind.

Although these items are labelled, they are not clear and we can not decipher the names.

Parklands Playground: You are Invited!

In the last week of this quarter, parents or a special guest are welcome to join each learner at Parklands Playground! This is a hands-on morning where the learners get to be the teachers and showcase a few iPad skills that they have learnt this year.

Great News!

Everyone knows Greg Heffley, the intriguing character from the bestselling Diary of A Wimpy Kid series. A few years ago, author Jeff Kinney added three books from the perspective of Greg’s best friend, the endearing Rowley Jefferson. These included Spooky Stories, some silly scary tales from Rowley’s wild imagination. Now a second collection of Spooky Stories has arrived amid great excitement from the loyal fans. Half text, half illustrations, these shorter stories are great to tempt younger readers with, especially as they are as hilarious as the series that we’ve come to know and love. Suitable for brave readers ages 8 - 12.

Birthday Book

Happy birthday to Eva, who is sharing an all-time favourite with us. Taking a walk through a North American forest is an amazing experience as there are so many creatures to discover in this “Fantastic Forest.” Thank you, Eva.

Co-parenting Through Your Child’s Eyes for PARENTS

When parents are caught up in the conflict of separation and divorce, it can be difficult to step back and see what the experience is like for the child.

What does your child hear?
What are they carrying?
What do they need from you?
This is a child-focused workshop looking at the impact of high-conflict co-parenting and practical ways parents can support their children.

We’ll explore:
How children experience parental conflict.
Signs that your child may be struggling. How to help children feel safe and secure.
How to keep children out of the middle.
Supporting your child's relationship with both parents.

Outreach

At Parklands College Preparatory, we believe that even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful impact. As part of our ongoing commitment to serving our wider community, we are launching a Stationery Outreach Drive to support a school in need.

We invite our families to donate new or gently used stationery that is still in good condition. Items such as pencils, pens, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, crayons, colouring pencils, and other school essentials can make a real difference in a learner's educational journey.

By giving unused stationery a new purpose, we can help equip young learners with the resources they need to thrive in the classroom while encouraging our own children to experience the joy of giving.

Donations can be sent to school until Friday, 4 September.

Thank you for supporting this initiative and for helping us make a positive difference, one stationery item at a time.

🧦 Funky Socks Day! 🌈

Get ready to brighten up our school with a splash of colour, creativity and fun! On Friday 11 September it is Funky Socks Day. Learners are invited to wear their funkiest, brightest and silliest socks with their PE uniform.

This special day is an opportunity to raise awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and show our support for the important work being done to assist children and families affected by FASD. 💛

As part of our initiative, we will be supporting Home of Hope, helping contribute towards the incredible work they do in providing care, support and opportunities for children affected by FASD.

So, dig out those crazy stripes, colourful patterns, mismatched pairs and favourite funky socks, the funkier, the better! 🧦✨

Let’s have some fun, spread awareness and make a difference, one funky sock at a time! 💛🌈

For those wearing funky socks, R10 will be billed to your account.

CAKE SALES

Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.

We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!

Please send R10 to school for your child to enjoy two treats from the cake sale.

Junior Prep Sport | Full House of Fixtures! 🏑🏉🏐

What a week it has been!

We had a full house of fixtures this week, with our Junior Prep learners taking to the Hockey Astro, Rugby fields and Netball courts. It’s fantastic to see Quarter 3 gaining momentum and our learners getting more opportunities to put their hard work from training into action.

But while we’re busy with the week-to-week fixtures, our eyes are firmly set on one of the biggest Junior Prep sporting highlights of the quarter…

Hockey Under Lights – 28 August

Our Junior Prep Under Lights Hockey Evening is coming up at the Secondary Astro on 28 August, and we are already getting excited!

This promises to be an evening to remember for some of our U8 and U9 learners, with hockey, lights, energy and plenty of Parkie spirit. We cannot wait to see our young hockey players experience what is sure to be a very special evening. Notifications for selected boys and girls U8 and U9 players will be sent out shortly.

Secondary Derby Day – This Weekend!

If you’re free and available, pop in to Somerset College tomorrow, 15 August, for the Secondary Derby Day.

It’s sure to be an incredible experience and a fantastic opportunity to see the bigger Parklands sporting community in action.

Quarter 3 is well underway, and there is plenty more to come!

We are back with our annual Junior U8 and U9 Hockey evening at Parklands College Secondary Astro. Notifications will be sent out shortly to the U8 and U9 learners who have been selected to participate.

🏆 Week That Was | Junior Prep Sport

Another fantastic week of Junior Prep sport is in the books, with our learners getting valuable match exposure across Rugby, Netball and Hockey.

🏉 Rugby

Our U9 Rugby team took on Pinehurst in a closely contested fixture and came away with a fantastic 4–3 victory!

A great display of determination and teamwork from the team.

🏐 Netball

Our netballers were in action against Curro and Sunningdale, with plenty of exciting action across the teams.

U9A: 🏆 Won 11–0

U9B: The team fought hard but went down 8–2.

Our U9 Boys and U9 Girls were both in action against Sunningdale.

REMINDERS:

Hockey Quarter 3

Grade 3 parents: A reminder that if you have signed your child up for hockey, learners must be dropped at the Astro at the Secondary Faculty by 07:30 every Friday where teachers and coaches will be to welcome them. Learners who have not signed up for hockey may not arrive at the Astro, as coaches and buses are booked according to the sign-up sheet.

Here are a few important reminders specifically for hockey:

Clothing: As the weather can be unpredictable, please pack a change of PE clothes and white socks for after practice.
Transport & School Day: Learners’ school bags will be kept safe and dry. School buses will transport them back to the Junior Preparatory, where they will begin their school day at 09:00.
Matches: Boys' and girls' hockey matches take place on Thursday afternoons on either grass or AstroTurf. You will receive an email if your child has been selected to play.
Required Equipment for all practices and matches: All hockey players must have a gum guard, shinpads, and a hockey stick. If learners do not have their kit for practice, they will not be selected for matches.

If your Grade 3 child has been signed up for rugby or netball ONLY, these practices are at 07:30 on the Junior Preparatory campus. Rugby boys must have gum guards for every session.

This is a reminder to check that your child has the correct items for hockey and rugby that will take place this quarter.
