Junior Preparatory Weekly Memo
30 October 2026
30 October 2026
Dear Parents,
We have had a wonderful, sunny week with musical delights, sweet treats and important reminders on responsible use of our iPads. Please remember that our outreach collection for Santa's Shoebox is closing next week Thursday, the 5th of November.
Wow! Our last Cake Sale of the year was a hit and we raised R2200. Thank you to all the families that brought tasty goodies and supported us.
OUTREACH
A big thank you to all our wonderful families who have already donated items towards our Santa Shoebox outreach project! 💚 Your generosity and kindness will help make the festive season extra special for children in need.
A friendly reminder that completed Santa Shoeboxes are due on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. 🎄
Thank you for helping us spread a little joy, love and Christmas magic. Every contribution makes a difference! 🎁✨
Yesterday we hosted our annual Morning Melodies event. Each learner walked off the stage as proud as can be.
We started the week off with some important reminders for all our learners to help keep them safe when using their iPads. The reminders were:
make sure a parent or trusted adult is always around when you are on your iPad
there are adults around to help you when you feel uncomfortable or have seen something inappropriate
only touch your own iPad
ask permission to take a photo
remove headphones when a teacher is talking to you and when you are walking to venues
Our learners entertained us with a few interpretations but it was made clear that these reminders are valid throughout childhood to help them make good choices and decisions.
When the College hosted the FIRST LEGO League Regional Championship last week, two of our newest JP Robotics teachers jumped straight in. Jennifer McGee judged the FLL Explore teams, and Philisiwe Nxumalo refereed the robot games.
Neither of them had done this before, and both took on the challenge with enthusiasm. Thank you, Jennifer and Philisiwe, for giving your time and supporting young innovators from across the region!
Parkie parents, we have heard the desperate call of all our little collectors: Stickable Books and Posters need completing!
Learners can bring in their extra Stickables, bring along the book and/or poster and we will host a Stickable Swap Day on Monday at first break.
Please note that Co-curriculars have started from the first day of the new quarter.
Please note that our learners are wearing their summer school uniform this quarter.
JULIA DONALDSON MAGIC
Fans of Julia Donaldson have had a special treat this year with the arrival of two new books. The delightful Granny Gruffalo arrived recently, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the original illustrator of the Gruffalo family. Then we also received The Magic Feather, a magical story featuring birds, with gorgeous, delicate illustrations by the talented Catherine Rayner, and an important message of looking after nature.
BOOK CLUB FUN
The Book Club spent time in the world of Timmy Failure, a small detective with a big imagination and an imaginary partner called Total, a polar bear. They had fun with the iconic book covers, and learnt some handy iPad skills, taking photos and becoming the character on the cover.
BIRTHDAY BOOKS
Kiaav treated the library patrons to a marvellous book by National Geographic about the world and its wonders, which could keep you browsing for hours. Thank you so much, Kiaav!

Now we turn our attention to one of the highlights of our Summer Season - the annual Mini Cricket Festival on Saturday, 7 November! We’re gearing up for a fantastic morning of cricket, fun and Parklands spirit. Our Parklands U8 & U9 Mini Cricket Festival takes place next Saturday at the Secondary Faculty.
Emails have been sent to the parents and guardians of the learners involved.
We’d love to see our families come out and support the players. Join us at the Secondary Campus from 08h30 and help create a festive atmosphere for all our young cricketers!
Bring your cheers, bring your Parkie pride and get ready for a brilliant morning on the cricket field. A coffee and food truck will be available.
