School’s out, and the Wildcats are ready for the summer of a lifetime at the luxurious Lava Springs Country Club. As Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and the rest of the Wildcats navigate friendship, romance, ambition and rivalry, they soon discover that staying true to yourself is more important than fitting in.
Packed with energetic dance numbers, iconic songs, humour and heart, this exciting production promises fun for the whole family. Don’t miss the chance to see our talented cast bring this much-loved Disney musical to life on stage!
The cast of High School Musical visited the Junior Preparatory learners to give them a sneak peek into their upcoming performance. The learners were utterly delighted by their fun visits.

Celebrating International
Day of PLAY
This week, our teachers and learners celebrated International Day of Play, embracing the power of play as a meaningful part of learning. Our classrooms were filled with fun, creativity, and discovery. Take a glimpse below into the exciting learning experiences that unfolded!
It has been an action-packed, hands-on week of learning in Grade 1! Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as the children dived into some incredibly creative activities across all subjects. Here is a sneak peek at what our little learners got up to:
Marvellous Maths: Our young mathematicians stepped into a world of wizardry! Armed with dice and their addition skills, they rolled and added numbers together to brew up their own unique magic potions, carefully drawing their magical ingredients inside their cauldrons.
Energetic English: We brought high energy into our literacy lessons with a Grade 1 version of the 30 Seconds game. Learners took turns coming to the front to sound out and describe words to their peers, giving every reader a chance to shine and build their confidence.
Action-Packed Afrikaans: We revisited the classic tale of Rooikappie en die Wolf (Little Red Riding Hood). After exploring the story digitally on Book Creator and practising new vocabulary, the children faced off in a fast-paced "Six Bricks" matching game to test their listening skills and vocabulary.
Lively Life Skills: We had a blast exploring the human body through fun, play-based activities! Learners worked together to learn about body parts and internal organs by creating colourful body drawings, cutting and pasting, and collaborating with their classmates.
Thank you for your continued support at home. We are so proud of how hard our Grade 1s are working while having so much fun!
Grade 2 learners celebrated International Play Day by building 3D shapes using Play-Doh and toothpicks. Through this hands-on activity, they explored edges, vertices, and faces while developing creativity, teamwork, and spatial awareness. Learners also enjoyed a classroom shop where they made wallets with money cut-outs and took turns being cashiers and shoppers. They bought items and worked out change, practising real-life money skills through fun, imaginative play.
Albert Einstein once said, "Play is the highest form of research," and today our Grade 3s proved him right as we celebrated International Day of Play with a day full of hands-on learning and smiles! In Maths, we ditched our pencils for playdough and toothpicks to build 2-D and 3-D shapes; it was tricky work, but the room was filled with triumphant cries of "I did it!" and "Yes!" as our structures came together. The creativity continued in English, where we teamed up with friends to craft puppets for The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which we will soon use to retell the story in our own words using Keynote or iMovie - watch this space! Finally, in Afrikaans, we used playdough to sculpt versions of ourselves and the things we love, bringing it all together digitally in Book Creator. It was a spectacular day showing just how much we can learn through the power of play!
FAREWELL TO MRS DUKE
Dear Parklands College Teachers, Parents, and Learners
As I prepare to leave at the end of this quarter and begin a new teaching adventure in China, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. Teaching has always been more than a profession to me, it is a passion, and it has been a privilege to be part of this wonderful community. I hope that, in some small way, I have made a positive difference in the lives of the learners I have taught and the families I have met along the way.
Thank you for the support, encouragement, and memories that I will carry with me into this next chapter. I leave with a full heart and deep appreciation for the relationships and experiences that have shaped me.
“The greatest legacy we can leave is kindness, carried forward in the lives we touch.”
With gratitude and best wishes,
Mrs Duke
LIBRARY NEWS
It's a Celebration!
Overheard in Grade 1: “Every time we come to the library, we hear about all these exciting days!” During the past week this was certainly true as the library displays reflect all the current exciting events. We started with World Environment Day last Friday, and learners had access to books on endangered animals which were read and discussed. Monday was World Oceans Day, and this display is hosted by our resident dolphin, Summer. There was much to talk about as we spoke about the importance of our oceans and what we can do to take better care of them. Then there is of course great excitement for the FIFA Soccer World Cup which started last night. Many of the parents have probably seen some of our array of books on soccer legends. The latest arrival is all about World Cup legends and the level of excitement is just amazing. Anything to get them reading!
Adventures with Jack Stalwart
Book Club members had a fabulous treat as we “visited” the bedroom of Jack Stalwart. Although it looks like an ordinary bedroom, it is full of surprises, like the globe called Whizzy which spits out puzzle pieces. When inserted in the correct spot on the world map on his wall, Jack is instantly transported to that country! The group also received the Jack Stalwart app which consists of puzzle adventures in different countries which require some serious teamwork to solve.
Birthday Books
We received the most beautiful Birthday Books this week! Siseko brought A Friend For All Seasons by the wonderful Refiloe Moahloli, which celebrates the joy of baking and making new friends. On Monday, which was World Oceans Day, Keanu arrived with four gorgeous stories of ocean animals: a penguin, a turtle, an octopus and a narwhal. Thank you to the parents and birthday friends for these thoughtful additions to our library.
Book Returns
We request that all library books be returned on Wednesday. Please assist your little reader/s to put those books in their bags at the end of the weekend. Thank you!
Robotics: Build Something Big That You're Proud Of!
This week, our Grade 3 learners explored crown gears at 90-degree angles, building a turnstile - first in DUPLO, then in small LEGO. Translating the design into smaller bricks was no easy challenge, but Keneo, Jesse and Emily took it on and gave it everything.
For the rest, the brief was simple: build something big that you're proud of. The smiles in the photos say it all.
Well done, Grade 3s!
Grade 1s were proud of their builds.
ACADEMICS
Throughout the quarter, our Junior Prep learners continue with their formal and informal assessments. These are carefully integrated into the school day, ensuring your child feels supported and comfortable in their familiar classroom environment.
For a learner to successfully progress to the next grade, the Department of Education requires the following averages throughout the year:
Home Language: English - Code 4
Mathematics - Code 3
First Additional Language: Afrikaans/isiXhosa - Code 3
Regular attendance is equally important for academic growth. As per Department guidelines, a medical certificate is required for any absence of two days or more.
