Junior Preparatory Weekly Memo
30 April 2026
30 April 2026
We can all feel that the mornings are a little colder, the sky is a tad darker and seasons are changing. From Monday, all Junior Preparatory learners must wear their winter uniform. Please remember to clearly label each and every item with your child's name.
A reminder that hair accessories are to be black, white or navy. 🧤 Gloves and scarves are to be navy, only.
A HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
With the change in season and colder weather, we see an increase in illnesses. Any child who is unwell or taking antibiotics must stay at home. We appreciate that this can be challenging for working parents, but preventing the spread of infection to other learners and our teachers remains our priority.
GRADE ONE OUTING TO THE SCIENCE CENTRE
The Grade One learners set off on an exciting sensory adventure at the Science Centre, where curiosity was sparked through hands-on exploration. During an engaging workshop, they discovered more about the world around them by using their senses: touch, sight and sound. A standout moment was experimenting with colours, as they watched with amazement while different shades blended to form entirely new ones. The day was packed with wonder, creativity, and interactive fun!

Congratulations to Katleho and Emily who celebrated their birthdays this week, and visited the library with their Birthday Books. Kaleho donated The Crocodile Who Came For Dinner, a delightful story about a little crocodile named Omelette who lives with a family of wolves and is full of surprises! Emily brought Seven Sisters, a beautifully illustrated story that celebrates difference and creativity. What a feast! Thank you so much to you both.

CAKE SALES
Classes will all have an opportunity to host a cake sale and there is much excitement as the children eagerly look forward to this treat. Cake sale money is used to support various outreach projects.
We request that items such as cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc. are sent in by the classes that are hosting the cake sale. Please ensure that items donated for cake sales do not contain nuts. We love healthy goodies, especially popcorn!
Parents are welcome to send the year's money in advance to be kept safely locked away (i.e. 6 cake sales x R10=R60.00) or send in R10 on cake sale days.
If you are able to assist at your class cake sale from 09h40, please notify your child’s class teacher.

What a way to kick off the hockey season! Our Junior Prep athletes hit the turf with incredible energy this week, showing that they’ve been practising hard and are ready for the competition. Even with the excitement of the short weeks behind us, the focus remains sharp.
Our hockey stars got off to a flyer in their matches against Curro Century City and Edgemead. The skill and teamwork on display were truly impressive!
Girls Hockey vs. Curro Century City
U9 Girls: Won 2-0. A fantastic defensive effort and great clinical finishing. Ashlyn and Lillabet were the Players of the Match.
Boys Hockey vs. Edgemead
U9 Boys (Game 1): Drew 2-2. A thrilling, end-to-end match where the boys never stopped fighting. Savio was the Player of the Match.
U9 Boys (Game 2): Won 6-0. A dominant performance with some brilliant passing sequences. Enelo was the Player of the Match.
Next week, we are back to a full schedule, and we couldn't be more excited. We have the "big three" all in action:
Hockey
Rugby
Netball
Make sure your kits are packed and you’re ready to give it your all on the fields and courts.
Success isn't just about the goals you score; it's about the effort you put in when things get tough. As we head into a full week of sport, bring that same energy to every practice. Work hard, stay motivated, and remember that every champion was once a beginner who refused to quit!
Grade 3 parents: A reminder that if you have signed your child up for hockey, learners must be dropped at the Astro at the Secondary Faculty by 07:30 every Friday where teachers and coaches will be to welcome them. Learners who have not signed up for hockey may not arrive at the Astro, as coaches and buses are booked according to the sign-up sheet.
Here are a few important reminders specifically for hockey:
Clothing: As the weather can be unpredictable, please pack a change of PE clothes and white socks for after practice.
Transport & School Day: Learners’ school bags will be kept safe and dry. School buses will transport them back to the Junior Preparatory, where they will begin their school day at 09:00.
Matches: Boys' and girls' hockey matches take place on Thursday afternoons on either grass or AstroTurf. You will receive an email if your child has been selected to play.
Required Equipment for all practices and matches: All hockey players must have a gum guard, shinpads, and a hockey stick. If learners do not have their kit for practice, they will not be selected for matches.
If your Grade 3 child has been signed up for rugby or netball ONLY, these practices are at 07:30 on the Junior Preparatory campus. Rugby boys must have gum guards for every session.
This is a reminder to check that your child has the correct items for hockey and rugby that will take place this quarter and next quarter.
