We’ve had a fun-filled and exciting Readathon Week! 📚 It has been wonderful to see our learners embracing the joy of reading.
We look forward to welcoming our parents into the classrooms next week, when you are invited to join us for Parklands Playground. We can’t wait to share some special moments with you!

Parents or a special guest are welcome to join each learner at Parklands Playground! This is a hands-on morning where the learners get to be the teachers and showcase a few iPad skills that they have learnt this year.

Our learners came together for an exciting, high-energy Rugga Roots demonstration filled with fun and plenty of enthusiasm! It was a fantastic opportunity for our learners to get active and practise rugby skills.
A big thank you to Rugga Roots for the fun mornings!🏉
The once-a-week practice will be on a Thursday morning from 07:30 - 08:00 and will start on Thursday 15th October, on the JP fields. All boys may come to school in their PE kit and do not have to change back into their school uniform after their rugby practice.

Dot Day Fun
This week our library lessons focussed on The Dot, the inspiring little book by Peter H. Reynolds, which is celebrated worldwide for its meaningful lessons on creativity, collaboration and encouraging others. Learners got to create their own dot which was magically brought to life by using the Quiver app. The dot is responsive to touch and can perform a surprising variety of actions, which never fails to thrill our learners. What a wonderful experience for everyone!

Lit Quiz
In two closely contested inter-house Lit Quiz events this week, our readers were challenged to answer questions in a range of interesting categories, like “Doors”, “Transport” and “Oceans.” In the Grade 3 & 4 competition, Team Silver emerged as the winners - congratulations to Hugo, Parah, Ruona, Miley, Charlotte and Summer. Cambridge was the winning house overall.
Exciting New Arrival
After a silence of more than 20 years since we last heard from the Gruffalo family, we have welcomed Gruffalo Granny this week. The Gruffalo books are still great favourites in the library, and we have waited with bated breath for Granny to arrive. She is just as charming as we have expected, and the storyline is brilliant, warm and funny, with the delightful rhyme and rhythm that we have come to expect from Julia Donaldson. Of course there is a surprising twist at the end!
Axel Scheffler has brought his magic to the illustrations and the deep, dark wood comes alive with familiar scenes and quite a few surprises.
Julia Donaldson said, “I really hope that children – and adults too – will enjoy the new story, as I know what a wonderful experience shared reading can be. I was delighted when Axel came on board, and am even more so now that I’ve seen the brilliant sketches he’s already done for the new book.”
Axel Scheffler said, “. . . One day out of the blue there came a wonderfully clever and inspired new text by Julia. How does she do this? Could I decline? Of course not! As I have had to draw the odd Gruffalo and his daughter over the last 20 years, I’m not completely out of practice.
Birthday Book
Happy birthday to Vince, who donated a colourful version of Beauty and the Beast, perfect for early readers. Thank you, Vince!

Academics
Reports have been released this morning. Parent-Teacher Report Feedback meetings are scheduled for today, Friday 18 September, Monday 21 September and Tuesday 22 September. If you would like to meet with your child’s class teacher, please arrange a meeting via the Google Calendar link shared by the class teachers. Appointments are usually 15 minutes long. We greatly value our parents’ and teachers’ time and urge parents to be on time in order to ensure that other parents are not kept waiting. Please contact your child’s class teacher directly should you be unavailable to meet on the specific days and times scheduled.

Winter Season – That’s a Wrap!
What a quarter it has been. A massive thank you to all our Parklands families for an incredible, well-supported and well-attended Winter Season. The energy on the sidelines, the encouragement from our parents and the support for our teams have made such a difference. To our learners - thank you for always showing up, giving it your all and wanting to push yourselves further. We have seen some fantastic growth across Netball, Rugby and Hockey, with our learners developing their skills, confidence and understanding of the game throughout the quarter.
Our attention shifts to Cricket, Softball, Tennis and Swimming, with plenty more opportunities for our learners to learn, compete, have fun and continue growing through sport.

Wednesday, 23 September, is the last day of school and school closes at 13h00. Please make arrangements to collect your child promptly at 13h00 as there are no aftercare facilities on this day.
The Grade Ones will be singing to our Matrics at Valedictory on Wednesday and we will share some videos of this special occasion with our families.
We would like to wish Amy Dean a happy birthday for Saturday the 19th of September. We also have a number of staff celebrating their birthdays in the October holidays - Mrs Mey on the 1st of October; Miss Labuschagne on the 5th; Miss Haupt on the 7th and Miss Hammond on the 9th!
This will be our final blog for the quarter. Wishing you and your families a wonderful and restful holiday! We look forward to welcoming our learners back to school on 14 October, dressed in their summer uniforms.
