12 October 2026
12 October 2026
Dear Parents,Â
We are delighted to welcome our learners back to school on Wednesday the 14th of October for an exciting Spring Quarter!🌷 Our school grounds are coming alive with beautiful blooms, perfectly setting the scene for our upcoming Art exhibition: In the Garden - a celebration of our learners' creativity. Learners look forward to showcasing their art next Thursday the 22nd of October.
Please note all co-curriculars will begin from the first day back. We have now switched over to wearing our Summer uniform.Â
Rugga Roots first morning session will start on Thursday 15 October at 7:30 on the JP field.
Bring the family and pop in between 16:00 and 18:00 to see your child's art.
The classrooms are also open for viewing and tea and coffee will be served in the foyer.
HAPPY WORLD TEACHER'S DAY
World Teachers' Day is celebrated worldwide on October 5 each year to honour educators and recognise their vital role in shaping society and transforming education.Â
We are so blessed with incredible teachers who give so much of their time and hearts to our young learners.Â
We thought it would be fun to ask a few of our learners some questions about our teachers. Swipe to see their answers.Â

STAFFING
Khanya Mbikwana has thoroughly enjoyed her maternity leave and has made the decision not to return to Parklands College. We extend our gratitude to Sandisiwe Dlakavu, who has done an outstanding job stepping in during Khanya’s absence. We are delighted to announce that Mrs Dlakavu will be taking over as our permanent isiXhosa teacher. She has been a fantastic addition to our team, and we greatly appreciate our parent body welcoming and supporting her so warmly.
Nikki Niemand, or Teacher Nikki as the learners affectionately call her, our much loved Robotics Teacher, has not been well and we hold her in our thoughts while she undergoes medical treatment and receives the care she needs.Â
We would like to welcome Jenna and Philisiwe to our Robotics Department. They come with a wealth of experience and expertise in Robotics and we know they will ensure our learners keep learning and exploring in Robotics and have great fun doing so.Â

Parklands Playground
At the end of last quarter parents enjoyed a wonderful morning at Parklands Playground! Our learners had the chance to become the teachers, proudly showcasing some of the iPad skills they have learnt this year, alongside their parents as special guests.Â
Grade 1s Singing to the Matrics
It was such a heartwarming moment as our Grade 1s sang farewell songs to our Matrics at their Valedictory Ceremony at the end of last quarter.Â
COMING SOON: WIMPY KID 21!
For all the Wimpy kid fans out there, every new novel is an event, and this year it is extra special, as it is the 21st book in this popular series. What Jeff Kinney started as a daily newspaper comic for adults, has become a world-wide phenomenon. Ask the readers why they love it so much, and the answer is predictable: it is funny! A dad of two sons, Kinney knows his customers, and we owe him a lot for getting the most reluctant readers to read, and coming back for more.Â
As has become our custom, learners can pre-order their copies from the library or from the ladies at Reception. There is a discount involved, and we do save you the trip to the bookshop! We place the orders beforehand and will fetch the first copies when the boxes are opened. There is a world-wide embargo which will be lifted on Tuesday, 20 October, and learners will receive their copies during the morning. Please send R225 in a marked envelope with your child’s name, by Monday 19 October.
During the holidays, our resident author, Parah, was invited to Table View Library to present her book in an author talk. She was joined by her friends and 'Story Crew'.
Well done, Parah!
