Junior Preparatory Weekly Memo
5 June 2026
5 June 2026
This week the outdoor Amphitheater has been filled with the voices of the Pre-Primary learners who have been preparing for their concert. Our Junior Preparatory learners were their practice audience and it was a delight!
School’s out, and the Wildcats are ready for the summer of a lifetime at the luxurious Lava Springs Country Club. As Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and the rest of the Wildcats navigate friendship, romance, ambition and rivalry, they soon discover that staying true to yourself is more important than fitting in.
Packed with energetic dance numbers, iconic songs, humour and heart, this exciting production promises fun for the whole family. Don’t miss the chance to see our talented cast bring this much-loved Disney musical to life on stage!

A HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
With the change in season and colder weather, we see an increase in illnesses. Any child who is unwell or taking antibiotics must stay at home. We appreciate that this can be challenging for working parents, but preventing the spread of infection to other learners and our teachers remains our priority.
Please join our Junior Preparatory musicians at our annual Music Recital, taking place on Wednesday, 17 June at 18:00 in the Senior Preparatory Hall. The audience can look forward to hearing our Junior Orchestras, Grade Three Marimba band and individual musicians playing various instruments.
CLASSROOM NEWS
Grade 1P has been exploring the app Book Creator and using the 2D shapes to build rockets! Look at our Creative Agents!
Robotics: Gears, Gates & Code: Grade 2 Gets Mechanical!
Grade 2 learners had an exciting week in Robotics, exploring worm and spur gears and discovering how a gearbox controls speed and direction. They built sturdy frames, assembled their gearboxes, and then wrote code to motorise a gate — watching it swing open and closed on command. A brilliant mix of engineering and coding from our youngest builders!
Learner Spotlight: Published Author
We are delighted to celebrate the achievement our young author, Parah, who has a wonderful passion for writing and illustrating stories. Her creativity and dedication have recently led to the publication of her very first book, The Bunny That Can’t Stop Bouncing. A limited number of hard copies are currently available, with plans to make the book available on Amazon in the near future. Parah shared this exciting news with her classmates during her special “soft launch” this week, and we are proud to be celebrating this accomplishment with her.
OUTREACH
Thank you to all our Junior Preparatory teachers who stepped in and packed bags with love and care. The packages would not have been possible without the wonderful support from our Parkie families. THANK YOU!
LIBRARY NEWS
Meet the Author
It was a festive meeting for our Book Club this week as we celebrated one of our own. Parah has published her first book! Parah is an avid reader and for her this love for books has led to creating her own stories. Her gorgeous book, The Bunny That Can’t Stop Bouncing!, was created entirely on her iPad, with text in Book Creator and the beautiful illustrations done in the Watercolours app. She then merged the two, from where the book was printed.
We shared the wonderful story about the beginning of a special friendship, which cleverly draws the reader in to participate. We were excited to receive two books for the library, signed by the author herself. Then the excited Book Clubbers enjoyed some snacks and chatted about possibly becoming authors too!
Parah’s book will be for sale on Amazon, and we shall keep you informed of the details. We will follow her writing journey with great interest, and can’t wait to see what the next book is all about. We have had a tiny clue - there are animal characters again! We are so proud of you, Parah!
Thank you to Mrs Oxley-Simpson for visiting Book Club and taking these lovely photographs. What a memorable morning for all book lovers!
ACADEMICS
Throughout the quarter, our Junior Prep learners continue with their formal and informal assessments. These are carefully integrated into the school day, ensuring your child feels supported and comfortable in their familiar classroom environment.
For a learner to successfully progress to the next grade, the Department of Education requires the following averages throughout the year:
Home Language: English - Code 4
Mathematics - Code 3
First Additional Language: Afrikaans/isiXhosa - Code 3
Regular attendance is equally important for academic growth. As per Department guidelines, a medical certificate is required for any absence of two days or more.
REPORT FEEDBACK MEETINGS
Reports will be released on Friday 19 June and feedback meetings are scheduled for Friday 19 June, Monday 22 June and Tuesday 23 June.
This is a wonderful opportunity to sit down together, celebrate your child’s strengths, and look at how we can support their continued growth. We encourage you to book a slot via the Google Calendar links provided by your child’s teacher. Appointments are usually 15 mins in length. We greatly value our parents’ and teachers’ time and urge parents to be on time in order to ensure that other parents are not kept waiting. Please contact your child’s class teacher directly should you be unavailable to meet on the specific days and times scheduled.

Just like that, the final whistles have blown, and our formal sports matches for Quarter 2 have officially come to an end!
A massive thank you to all our incredible junior athletes, parents, and coaches for a wonderful term of winter sport. Our little stars successfully endured the very best of the Cape winter weather - braving howling winds, freezing cold mornings, and driving rain - always showing up with determination, massive smiles, and excellent sportsmanship.
We are incredibly proud of the grit our Junior Prep learners displayed. Enjoy the match break, because we're going again in Quarter 3!
While the weekly match calendar is pausing, our coaches and players are already looking ahead. Every single practice, tag-tackle, and goal this term has been building the foundation for a historic school milestone:
The Event: Our first-ever Derby Day against Blouberg Ridge!
The Date: Saturday, 1st August 2026
The Venue: Blouberg Ridge Primary School
This is going to be a monumental day of school pride, fun, and friendly competition for some U8's and U9's. We want our junior teams feeling confident and firing on all cylinders, which means our preparation starts before the new term even begins!
To help our young players shake off the holiday cobwebs, refine their skills, and get a head start for Derby Day, we will be hosting high-energy Hockey and Rugby Clinics just before the third quarter officially kicks off.
Please save these details to your family calendar:
Dates: Monday 20 July & Tuesday 21 July
Time: 09h00 sharp - 12h00 sharp
Hockey Venue: Secondary Campus Astro
Rugby Venue: Parklands Prep Fields
These clinics are a fantastic opportunity for our learners to develop their core skills, enjoy healthy outdoor activity during the holidays, and build chemistry with their teammates.
A Message to Our Junior Stars: You have worked so hard this term and improved so much! Even though our official weekend matches are finished for now, don't let those skills go to sleep over the holidays.
Have fun, get plenty of rest, but remember to stay active! Play catch in the garden, practise your footwork, or run around with your friends. Let's arrive at our July sports clinics full of energy and ready to make history on the 1st of August!
Thank you for a memorable quarter of growth, teamwork, and resilience. Stay warm, enjoy the upcoming holidays, and we will see you on the fields and the Astro in July!
The sunrise last week, over the Grade 3 Hockey practice at the Astro, was magical!
Our Junior Prep sports stars continue to shine brightly! This past week, our U9 netballers took to the court with massive smiles and incredible energy, demonstrating just how much their skills and teamwork have grown over the quarter.
Here is how our young champions fared in their latest fixture:
Our U9 squad went head-to-head with a highly enthusiastic Curro Sandown team. It was a fantastic showcase of early-stage tactical awareness, quick footwork, and brilliant team spirit.
U9A: Won 3-0. A stellar performance from start to finish! The girls combined a ruthless attacking display with an airtight defence, keeping a fantastic clean sheet. Their passing networks were incredibly sharp, and they found space beautifully on the court. Player of the Match: Layla for her outstanding movement into space and excellent intercepting skills.

➡️ EXTERNAL ACHIEVEMENTS ⬅️
Congratulations to Mveni-yena, Nikani and Koketso for being part of the overall winners in the Camps Bay Soccer Tournament.
Well done to Tapiwa for participating in the same tournament and receiving a medal.
Grade 3 parents: A reminder that if you have signed your child up for hockey, learners must be dropped at the Astro at the Secondary Faculty by 07:30 every Friday where teachers and coaches will be to welcome them. Learners who have not signed up for hockey may not arrive at the Astro, as coaches and buses are booked according to the sign-up sheet.
Here are a few important reminders specifically for hockey:
Clothing: As the weather can be unpredictable, please pack a change of PE clothes and white socks for after practice.
Transport & School Day: Learners’ school bags will be kept safe and dry. School buses will transport them back to the Junior Preparatory, where they will begin their school day at 09:00.
Matches: Boys' and girls' hockey matches take place on Thursday afternoons on either grass or AstroTurf. You will receive an email if your child has been selected to play.
Required Equipment for all practices and matches: All hockey players must have a gum guard, shinpads, and a hockey stick. If learners do not have their kit for practice, they will not be selected for matches.
If your Grade 3 child has been signed up for rugby or netball ONLY, these practices are at 07:30 on the Junior Preparatory campus. Rugby boys must have gum guards for every session.
This is a reminder to check that your child has the correct items for hockey and rugby that will take place this quarter and next quarter.
